A major outbreak of European Foul Brood was found in Scotland in summer 2009. American Foul Brood was also found. Scotland does not have an inspection service comparable to England's National Bee Unit, so the infection had been able to spread unnoticed until last summer. It now seems that Scotland's winter losses have been severe.
